Students are asked to engage in one of three art-actions to unpack the plight of immigrants today. First, they will consider what would they take if faced with deportation which allows deportees to pack only 25lbs of belongings. For this art-action they will design a suitcase to speak to the issue. Second, they will imagine and create a passport that expands the notion of identity when it is not tied to a nationality. Lastly, they will consider the iconic civil rights poster "I Am A Man" and work on a large group painting that reclaims the humanity of children that have been separated from their families at the border. The new statement they would work with is "I Am A Child".
